Yaz Side Effects

Yaz and Yasmin are two of the most popular forms of birth control used by women in the last decade. Unfortunately, reports have surfaced in recent years showing that some side effects of Yaz may cause serious or even fatal health risks.

Yaz became widely used after it was marketed as an alternative with fewer menstrual side effects. However, researchers now believe blood clots from Yaz side effects may contribute to:

  • Stroke
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
  • Pulmonary Embolism

Despite reports indicating Bayer Pharmaceuticals may have known of the serious risks of Yasmin and Yaz side effects, they failed to adequately warn women taking the drugs. Experts fear that tens of thousands or women may have been injured or worse.

Nearly 10,000 women and families have filed a Yaz side effects lawsuit in recent years. Within the last several months, the company has started settling some of these cases with select law firms. There is still time for those just learning the cause of their injury to file a claim, however, it is important they choose a qualified lawyer.

If you have suffered any Yaz birth control side effects like a blood clot, stroke, DVT or pulmonary embolism, contact us to learn your legal options as soon as possible. Time is limited to file a claim and receive compensation.

The FDA approved the birth control drugs Yaz and Yasmin, but has since issued several warnings about the side effects of Yaz. These came after research showed health risks and doctors reported hundreds of injuries or deaths.

Researchers in America and Europe have isolated the risk of Yaz side effects to the chemical hormone drospirenone, which is an active ingredient in the drug. Drospirenone has been linked to elevated blood potassium, which can contribute to blood clots.

Blood clots can be a natural healing function of the body. However, when they are artificially caused by a reaction to a drug, they can lead to Yaz birth control side effects like a stroke, DVT or pulmonary embolism.

The British Medical Journal published studies from Denmark and the Netherlands in 2009 relating Yaz to blood clots. The FDA then released a large study in October of 2011 indicating drugs like Yaz could cause a 75% increase in blood clot risks. Most recently, the FDA has ordered warning labels on the drug be changed.

While some may be apprehensive to file a Yaz side effects lawsuit, the compensation can help with medical expenses, future care and lost earnings. It is also important to understand that Bayer has continued to earn billions selling Yaz despite knowing the dangers.
